Best Degree Completion Programs in Nevada 2027

In Nevada, every public college shares one course numbering system, so a class like ENG 101 at the College of Southern Nevada counts as the same course at UNR or UNLV. The Nevada System of Higher Education also just launched Take the Credit, a campaign to turn work and military experience into college credit. About 320,000 Nevada adults have some college credit and no degree, and UNR, UNLV, Great Basin and Western Nevada all offer online routes.

Going Back to College in Nevada

Start by sending official transcripts to the NSHE school you choose. Transfers between NSHE schools are free and usually take 3 to 5 business days. A completed AA, AS or Associate of Business from an NSHE community college covers all lower-division general education at any other NSHE school, and there is no cap on credits NSHE universities accept, only a residency requirement. Western Nevada College charges $226.00 per upper-division credit in registration fees for Fall 2026 and Spring 2027. Ask each school about Credit for Prior Learning, which now transfers within NSHE.

Take the Credit (NSHE Credit for Prior Learning)

A systemwide campaign to help Nevadans earn college credit for learning gained through work, military service, professional training, certifications and exams. Credit for prior learning now transfers within NSHE like other course credits.

Who qualifies: Current and prospective students at UNLV, UNR, Nevada State, the College of Southern Nevada, Great Basin College, Truckee Meadows and Western Nevada College; start at Nevada.edu/CPL.

NSHE Transfer Agreements and Common Course Numbering

All NSHE courses share the same prefix, number, title and credit value, and NSHE institutions have transfer agreements for each bachelor’s degree. A completed AA, AS or Associate of Business covers lower-division general education at any NSHE school.

How we ranked

Every college on every state list is scored the same way, out of 100. The measures, from most to least weight:

  • Transfer Student Completion (25%): the share of transfer students who earn a degree within eight years (IPEDS Outcome Measures).
  • Cost per Credit (20%): the online per-credit rate the school publishes, at the resident rate for in-state schools, or the federal per-credit charge when no online rate is published.
  • Transfer Credit Maximum (15%): the most transfer credit the featured degree accepts, from the school’s own policy.
  • Online Experience (15%): the share of undergraduates who study fully online (IPEDS).
  • Graduate Earnings (15%): median earnings of the school’s graduates in that field (College Scorecard).
  • School Reputation (10%): a rating of how employers regard the school’s bachelor’s degrees, made the same way for every school from its published facts.

When a measure is missing for a college, it gets the middle value for that measure, so missing data never helps a school move up.

Questions About Finishing Your Degree in Nevada

Which School Has the Best Degree Completion Program in Nevada?

The #1 school for degree completion in Nevada in 2027 is Great Basin College, because its rate is $116 per credit for Nevada residents (the lowest on this list) and 92% of its undergraduates study fully online (higher than 7 other colleges on this list). #2 is University of Nevada, Las Vegas: its rate is $281 per credit for Nevada residents (lower than 5 other colleges on this list). #3 is University of Nevada-Reno: its rate is $281 per credit for Nevada residents (lower than 5 other colleges on this list). The order comes from transfer student graduation rates, cost per credit, transfer credit limits, online experience, graduate earnings and school reputation, weighted the same way for every state.

Is There a Limit on Transfer Credits at Nevada Universities?

No. NSHE says there is no maximum number of credits that its universities may accept. What you do face is the residency graduation requirement, which means a certain number of credits must be completed at the university itself. Your upper-division major courses count toward that requirement, so ask the school how many credits it expects from you.

Does My Associate Degree Cover General Education at a Nevada University?

It depends on the degree. A completed Associate of Arts, Associate of Science or Associate of Business from an NSHE community college fulfills all lower-division general education at any other NSHE school. Associate of General Studies and Associate of Applied Science degrees do not guarantee that, so expect an evaluation of what is left.

Can Work Experience Earn College Credit in Nevada?

Yes. Under Take the Credit, NSHE schools can award college credit for learning gained through work, military service, professional training, certifications and exams. Since 2025, credit for prior learning also transfers within NSHE like other course credits. Go to Nevada.edu/CPL to see what counts at each college or university.
