Radiologic sciences degree completion programs

Best Online Radiologic Sciences Degree Completion Programs for 2027

Your registry is worth real credit toward a bachelor’s, and where you apply decides how much. Marian counts 60 credits for a two-year program with ARRT certification, Boise State gives 17 to 25 credits for the credential on top of an associate degree, and LSU Alexandria awards 43 hours for the registry alone. Most of these degrees are non-clinical, so they build management and communication skills rather than a new modality.

Choosing Between a Leadership Degree and a Modality Degree

Some things never move online. Initial technologist training and its clinical competencies happen in person, and so does the clinical work behind a new CT, MRI or mammography credential. If you want a modality, look at AdventHealth, Georgia Southern and South Alabama. If you want a lead tech, manager or program director path, the online radiology degree at Ohio State, Boise State or Weber State is built for that.

Ohio State, Boise State, Weber State’s independent study route and Indiana University’s nonclinical concentration are explicit that they add no clinical requirement. Marian and Regis’s general track are fully online as well. Georgia Southern, AdventHealth and South Alabama add advanced-modality coursework, and the clinical side of a new credential is handled separately.

This shortlist includes 10 online degree offerings at 10 colleges. Compare transfer credit policies with the requirements of your chosen major. Check each program’s schedule and any laboratory, fieldwork, or campus commitments before enrolling.

How we select programs

Each program here is an online bachelor’s built for technologists who already hold an associate degree or program certificate and a registry credential from ARRT, ARDMS or NMTCB. The credits awarded, total credits, tracks and clinical rules come from each school’s own degree and admission pages. The order is editorial: leadership degrees with the clearest credit awards come first and modality routes follow. It does not estimate how many credits your own transcript will earn, and every school decides that for itself.

A Leadership Degree Built Around Management and Quality Improvement

The Ohio State University

Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences (AS to BS Completion)

OnlineDegree completion route

Ohio State designed this AS to BS for working imaging professionals who want to move into management, and the coursework says so plainly: management principles, human resources for healthcare, administration and quality management. You need an associate degree and an active ARRT, NMTCB or ARDMS credential, so sonographers, nuclear medicine technologists and therapists apply alongside radiographers. The program totals 30 to 60 credit hours, with summer, autumn and spring starts. A capstone-like project has you put quality improvement into practice at your own workplace, and the degree prepares you for the exam requirements of the Certified Radiology Administrator credential.

Before you apply: Ohio State states that the program does not provide initial certification or clinical training, so it will not add a CT or MRI credential. The published admission standard includes a GPA of 2.50 or higher.

Boise State University

Bachelor of Science in Imaging Sciences

OnlineDegree completion route

Boise State shows its arithmetic. With an AS or AA you bring 62 credits, and the ARRT credential adds another 17 to 25, which leaves 33 credits of imaging sciences courses in a 120-credit degree. How Your Registry and Associate Degree Become Bachelor’s Credit

ARRT’s primary pathway already requires an associate degree plus an ARRT-approved educational program with demonstrated clinical competencies, so most credentialed technologists arrive with about two years of college behind them. What differs is how a bachelor’s program counts that work. Marian credits 60 for a two-year program with certification, Boise State applies 62 for an AS or AA and 17 to 25 more for the credential, and South Alabama awards 38 upper-level semester hours after its bridge course.

Weber State takes the opposite approach and reviews prior credit case by case. Ask each school for a written evaluation that separates general education, major courses and electives, then compare what remains. Totals alone mislead. Two programs with the same total can leave very different amounts of coursework.

What You Cannot Finish Online in Radiologic Sciences

Anyone searching for an online radiology degree should know where the line sits. ARRT requires a primary-pathway candidate to complete an educational program and demonstrate clinical procedures, which cannot happen through a screen. Every program here starts after that work is done. Ohio State says plainly that it does not provide initial certification or clinical training, Boise State says its degree leads to no credential, and Weber State’s independent study route does not lead to ARRT certification.

Clinical hours return only when you add a modality. AdventHealth’s CT, MRI and VI students dual-enroll in a certificate program for hands-on experience, and Georgia Southern’s clinical track places you at an accredited site, which you find yourself if you live outside Savannah.

Pick a Leadership Path or a New Modality

Ohio State lists the roles its graduates move toward: imaging supervisor or manager, operational lead, imaging director, program director and chief technologist. It also notes that the bachelor’s degree meets the degree requirement for accredited medical dosimetry programs, which opens a route into dosimetry for radiation therapists.

If you would rather add scanning skills, compare AdventHealth’s CT and MRI tracks, Georgia Southern’s clinical track and South Alabama’s CT coursework. Decide first which door you want to walk through, because a leadership degree and a modality degree answer different questions about your next five years. Choose the door first.

Questions About Radiologic Sciences Degree Completion Programs

Can I Get a Bachelor’s in Radiology Online?

Yes, if you already hold a registry credential. Every program above is an online bachelor’s for technologists who have finished their entry-level training and passed their credentialing exam. Initial radiologic technologist training and its clinical competencies are completed in person, so there is no fully online path to your first ARRT credential. That part stays hands-on.

Do I Need an Associate Degree and ARRT Certification to Apply?

Usually both. Ohio State, Boise State, Weber State and AdventHealth ask for an associate degree plus a current credential. Indiana University asks only for active certification, and AdventHealth admits certificate or diploma graduates on bridge status with 24 more general education hours. LSU Alexandria lets a credential earn 43 hours of credit.

Do Rad Techs Make More With a Bachelor’s Degree?

Ohio State cites the ASRT 2024 wage survey, which found full-time imaging professionals with an associate degree averaging $81,546 a year and those with a bachelor’s averaging $89,899, a gap of more than $8,000. The larger payoff tends to come from supervisor, director and educator roles that prefer a bachelor’s.

Will an Online Bachelor’s Add CT or MRI to My Credentials?

Only some do. AdventHealth’s CT, MRI and VI tracks pair coursework with a dual-enrolled certificate for clinical experience, Georgia Southern’s clinical track leads to certification eligibility after clinical education, and South Alabama’s online courses meet the structured education requirements for CT. Ohio State, Boise State and Weber State’s independent study route add no credential.

How Long Does a Radiologic Sciences Degree Completion Program Take?

Boise State says some students finish in as little as 12 months, Regis College 12 to 16 months, and AdventHealth 18 months. Marian and Ohio State both describe less than two years. Weber State’s independent study route gives you six months from registration to complete coursework.
